His most recent nonfiction work is Our Living Ancestors: The History and Ecology of Old-Growth Forests in Wisconsin and Where to Find Them. His poetry has been published in the Oxford Magazine, Wisconsin Academy Review, Albatross, The Northern Review and in five science-art exhibits. John’s book of poetry, Cold to the Bone,  was released in 2017.
