Self Check

Home > Services > Self Check

This service gives you the opportunity to bypass long lines and check out materials directly with the library system. Self checkout is easy, quick and is a part of our ongoing commitment to ensure that your library experience is both productive and efficient. It allows you to checkout library items (provided it is not on hold for another patron).

The self-checkout machine is located in the lobby near the Information Desk. The self-checkout machine has a large touchscreen monitor that easily and quickly takes you through the checkout process. However, if you should have any difficulty using the machine, please do not hesitate to ask one of our Information Desk volunteers or library staff members for assistance. They are more than happy to help you.

•  Available during regular library building hours, except the last 10 minutes before the library closes.

To use the self check machine, you must have:

  •   A valid Olson Memorial Library Card
  •   An account with less than $10 in fines and no lost materials.

Follow the simple instructions on the screen (instructions are also detailed below), scanning your books yourself. After approving the transaction, the machine will:

  •  Print a receipt telling you when the items are due.
  • You will need to bring your checked out NEW DVDs and Playaways, along with the receipt, to the Information Desk to be loaded into the item cases.

Detailed Instructions:

  • Place your library card (barcode side up) under the scanner.  A red line appears; wait until the machine registers the card number then REMOVE the card.
  • Scan your items on at a time.  Look for the Olson Library barcode label on the book (do not use the manufacturer's ISBN barcode).  Place each item's OLSON LIBRARY barcode under the scanner.  The items will show up on the screen as they are being checked out, if you get an error with a certain item, remove it and try that particular item.
  • You will need to bring your checked out NEW DVDs and Playaways, along with the receipt, to the Information Desk to be loaded into the item cases.
  • After all items are checked out, select Done and a receipt will be printed.
  • Check to make sure all items checked out are on your receipt.
  • Take your receipt and you are done!
